Renee Balter

Renee Balter has been painting island vistas since the mid 1970’s. Renee’s work reflects a deep connection and abiding love for the Vineyard that began in 1954 when she traveled to the island for the first time.

Janet Messineo

For thirty years, I have had the privilege of preserving some of nature’s perfect creatures. Now instead of recreating their natural colors and patterns, I am letting my creative gift go wild. These are all one of a kind works of art. Some of the work you see at the Galaxy Gallery are from my series called WHIMSY FISH.

Joan LeLacheur

Working with shells found walking the beaches in Aquinnah, Joan makes breathtaking jewelry and mosaic tiles. She seeks just the right shell. She may make a bead, or a shape for a necklace or earrings etc. Each piece gives one a feeling for this place our island home.

Marston Clough

An Islander by birth, and now by choice, I continue to take pleasure in the beauty that surrounds us. I started as a printmaker, though oils are my primary medium. I enjoy exploring printmaking, pastels, drawing and sculpture.

Genevieve Jacobs

Collage enables me to plan, problem-solve, improvise, and create. It thrills me when disparate elements come together to represent something unexpected. The bird paintings unite my love for them and an exploration of form and color. As the portraits progress, personalities emerge and voices are heard, often in amusing, unpredictable ways...

Elizabeth Lockhart Taft

I paint only what I see. I enjoy the struggle of putting one color next to the other. I don’t change what is there. Each of my paintings is an homage to a particular place. I paint to communicate the beauty and magic of our island.

Anna Lowell Finnerty

“Anna “Lowely” Finnerty, a Vineyard resident of five decades, is deeply connected to the natural beauty of the island and is committed to it’s preservation. She employs the highly saturated and reflective pigment of pastels to paint light as it reveals our land and seascapes.

Ruth Kirchmeier

“When woodcut artist Ruth Kirchmeier talks about her life, the words ‘fortunate,’ ‘obsessed,’ and ‘persistent’ proliferate. She says she is living the life she loves: surrounded by friends and family, continually inspired by Martha’s Vineyard’s natural beauty; and spent in lifelong passionate engagement with the arts.”  – Karla Araujo

Peggy Turner Zablotny

My botanical collage

compositions are about my experience and pleasure of discovery...

the joy of transforming those inner revelations into visual statements of form, color

and texture.

The Galaxy Gallery looks like a typical art gallery showing a great selection of creations from local artists.

But unlike most galleries on Martha’s Vineyard, it is a nonprofit organization.

The Martha’s Vineyard Center for the Visual Arts (MVCVA), an Island nonprofit organization for thirty years,

supports year round Island artists by providing display space and promotional support at the seasonal

Galaxy Gallery at 99 Dukes County Avenue in the Arts District in Oak Bluffs.
